Modern repairs can move more than sheet metal.

Driver-assistance systems depend on sensors mounted to glass, bumpers, grilles, mirrors, body panels, brackets, and vehicle structure. A collision—or the work required to repair it—can change the position or data those systems rely on.

01 · Windshield + forward cameras

Cameras need a known view of the road.

A forward camera commonly sits behind the windshield and may support lane departure, lane keeping, sign recognition, and collision-warning functions. Glass work, camera removal, structural movement, or alignment changes can affect its calibration requirements.

02 · Bumper + grille radar

Radar needs the right position and a clear path.

Radar may sit behind a bumper cover, grille, emblem, or bracket. A small change in mounting angle, bracket position, part construction, or repair material can affect what the sensor sees—even when no warning light is present.

03 · Connected vehicle inputs

The vehicle has to agree with itself.

Cameras and radar do not work alone. Steering angle, wheel alignment, ride height, tire condition, sensor mounting, programming, and diagnostic faults can all affect whether a procedure can be completed and verified.

Calibration starts with the repair—not the machine.

Correct parts, intact mounting points, proper alignment and ride-height conditions, resolved faults, the applicable vehicle procedure, and final documentation all matter to a valid result.

01Does every collision repair need ADAS calibration?+

No. Requirements depend on the vehicle, the damage, the components removed or replaced, alignment changes, diagnostic results, and the manufacturer's repair procedures.

02Can a warning light tell me whether calibration is needed?+

Not reliably. A system can require calibration without displaying a dashboard warning, and a warning may indicate a separate diagnostic issue that must be resolved first.

03What happens if a calibration will not complete?+

The repair team reviews diagnostic faults, mounting position, alignment, tire and ride-height conditions, programming, and the specific setup requirements before deciding the next step.

04Is calibration part of the insurance claim?+

When a calibration is required by the repair and supported by documentation, Atey includes it in the repair conversation with the insurer. Coverage decisions can still vary by claim and policy.
